Red Light

Drivers running red lights pose a significant danger to other road users, as well as pedestrians. Enforcement via incident detection and the issuing of fines is a key tool for authorities worldwide, helping to encourage driver behavioural change and save lives in the community.

Redflex’s Halo solution is designed to capture red light offences (and can be configured for other enforcement activities too, including instantaneous speed enforcement, average speed and licence plate recognition).

The Halo solution utilises 3D high-definition radar for non-intrusive vehicle detection to effectively cover up to six lanes of traffic. This enables Halo to be installed in locations where traditional enforcement systems fail due to complicated road configurations.  Halo utilises highly sensitive HDR cameras that deliver exceptional low-light performance in all conditions including night photography. A low-power, high-intensity LED flash provides targeted illumination on the object, without the stray light inherent to traditional xenon flashes.

The Video Phase Detection System (VPDS) utilises a dedicated video camera focused directly on the traffic signals at an intersection or crossing.  The video stream from the VPDS camera is constantly monitored for changes in signal states to provide Halo with an isolated method of monitoring the traffic signal states.

Being a truly one-pole solution, Halo is designed for quick and cost-effective installation, with minimal civil works.

Key Capabilities

  • Detection of up to 6 lanes of traffic High resolution image capture
  • HD video recording
  • Monitors the current state of the traffic light phase via a Video Phase Detection System or Traffic Light Interface Module (TLIM)
  • Multiple enforcement capabilities
  • ANPR detection

Features

  • Single-enclosure, one-pole system that minimises infrastructure connections and sunk costs
  • High-definition 3D tracking radar accurately measures range, angle, speed and position of detected vehicles
  • Accurate traffic phase detection
  • Accurate vehicle detection and triggering enable high prosecution rates for red light enforcement
  • High ANPR detection rate
  • Simultaneously detection of multiple activities all without any hardware changes to the default Halo platform:
    • Instantaneous speed
    • Average speed
    • Hold the Red
    • Lane closure
    • Close following
    • Bus lane
    • Grid lock/yellow box
    • Railway crossing
  • Real-time data traffic intelligence and analytics provide agencies with more control over road management
  • Halo red light platform requires almost no onsite configuration and has no moving parts
  • Latest generation camera sensors allow low-light and inline flash imaging to capture vivid scenes and perfectly readable plates, in both IR and visible illumination

Benefits

  • Improved detection and enforcement – unambiguous identification of vehicle speed, length, position, class and lane use
  • Increased enforcement options – Halo provides agencies with a greater number of enforcement options all from within the one system
  • Improved road monitoring and management – provides real-time traffic information to road operators and road users, giving them the ability to improve traffic flow, enhance journey management, and quickly detect traffic accidents and other incidents
  • Lower cost of enforcement – Halo platform combines several detection capabilities in a seamless integrated, multi-purpose platform with bi-directional detection. This reduces the costs associated with roadside equipment, supporting infrastructure, system installation and maintenance
  • Reduced installation costs – one-pole installation takes much less time and effort than installing separate camera, flash and detection devices
  • Lower maintenance costs – all components are easily serviceable and no onsite camera adjustments are required
  • Flexibility of deployment – Halo is a portable system, thereby allowing agencies to leverage their investment across multiple sites
  • Superior image quality – delivers improved enforcement success rates due to a greater number of legible number plate images
