Redflex Signs Agreement with Brampton, Ontario to Increase School and Community Safety Zone Automated Speed Enforcement
Ontario automated speed enforcement camera program has doubled in size since 2019.
BRAMPTON, Ontario, September 14, 2020 – Today, the Redflex Group, a world leader in developing and implementing intelligent traffic management solutions, announced a significant expansion of the School and Community Safety Zone Automated Speed Enforcement Program with the City of Brampton, Ontario. Redflex will provide the city with a total of 50 NK7-ONT mobile automated speed enforcement systems. Coming fewer than six months after Brampton’s initial agreement with Redflex to deploy five systems, the new systems will help protect children on their walk to and from school. Brampton is Canada’s ninth largest city and the fourth largest city in Ontario.
The sale showcases Redflex’s automated enforcement presence in Canada’s most populous province, with 112 systems ordered by 7 cities to date. This represents a more than doubling of Ontario’s network of School and Community Safety Zone automated speed enforcement systems since Redflex first won a competitive bid in Toronto in 2019 for 50 systems. Now, several other jurisdictions within the province have joined Brampton and Toronto, including Durham, Hamilton, Ottawa, Peel and York.
The Redflex Radarcam Solutions in the province allow for rotation to different School and Community Safety Zones, with the majority battery operated. This provides municipalities the flexibility to enforce speeds in different areas as circumstances and conditions warrant.
Ontario is home to more than one-third of all Canadians, with a population of more than 13-million people according to the 2016 Census, including over 2 million school-age children enrolled with the Ontario Ministry of Education (2018-2019). Redflex’s Mark Talbot, Group Chief Executive Officer of Redflex Holdings Limited, said the newest Brampton agreement validates the importance of School and Community Safety Zone enforcement as a tool to enhance safety across Ontario. “We are excited to partner with these communities to provide a new layer of safety,” he said. “Safety is a driving pillar at Redflex and the fact that so many jurisdictions within the province are embracing our solutions is gratifying and humbling.”
