Queensland Government Recognizes Redflex “Hold the Red” System in 2018 Premier’s Awards for Excellence
The Queensland, Australia government recognized the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) and the Queensland Police Service (QPS) for successfully implementing Redflex’s Hold the Red system, awarding them the “Highly Commended” honor for Innovation at the 2018 Premier’s Awards for Excellence.
Hold the Red was one of four winning concepts from TMR’s Director General’s innovation challenge in 2017. TMR and QPS implemented the technology at four complex intersections in July 2018.
Hold the Red helps reduce crashes at signalized intersections by detecting when a vehicle is about to run a red light. When triggered, the system prevents the opposing lights and pedestrian signals from turning green, reducing the risk of a crash.
The Premier’s Awards for Excellence recognize exemplary work from groups across the Queensland public sector that benefits and improves the lives of all Queenslanders. Winners are honored in six categories: Customer Focus, Innovation, Leadership, Performance, Sustainability and the Premier’s Award.
